The 2012 comp is ready.

This year we have a new meet director, Ivan Jensen from the local club MDK.
Ivan already managed to hire the officials needed.
Retreival bus is orded.
And even the option of a second bus plus a second trailer for gliders is a possibility.

Clossing dinner is ordered, Roast Pig.

This year will be fantastic.

This years Danish open had 5 or lets say 4,5 heats.
Due to the difficult weather it only ranks as an average comp in Denmark.

Heat 5. A 56km task was set with goal at Fasterholt.

Again today difficult conditions. NNW winds 15 km/h, a dry day but some cumulus clouds.

Task of heat 5.

No pilots turned turnpoint 4.

Day winners shared Jesper and Rob.

Heat 4. Closed circuit.

A 60km task was set. 3 turnpoints and goal at Fasterholt.
Nobody made it to goal.
A northwind at 12 - 20km/h, made the task difficult.

Start area.

Best flight was Jesper, he got turnpoint 3. but landed on the way to goal in Harrild heather moorland.

Cloudbase was again today low 1100meters.
On the overall Jesper takes the lead ahead of Joakim.

A 64,3 km dogleg was set.

Heat 3

First reports from pg pilots was on very strong wind.

A wind dummy testet the condition, 22km/h wind but cloud base in 550meters.

Task was delayed for 1 hour, with start 1400.

Cloud base got higher, late it was near 1000meter.

No pilots made it to goal.

Longest flight was Johnny's he landed 10km before goal.

Unfortunately he missed the turnpoint with few meters.

Forecast: strong wind, blue thermals.
A task with a single turnpoint was set. Goal in Norsminde a small harbour at the east coast.

Wind was direct to 1. tp. Cross wind to goal.

4 pilots made it to goal.

The day is canceled.
A cold front is passing Denmark.
No chance of a fair heat.
Tomorow will be good but with some wind.
The rest of the comp looks like flyable days.

The weather forecast looked promising.

Briefing

But to early a cloud cover moved in from south and closed down the day.

Rigging gliders. The incoming clouds on the horizon.

Task Dogleg 73,8km
Only 4 pilots managed to go on course.
With south wind and weak thermals the drift made the task difficult.

The day was canceled due to bad weather.
Rain all afternoon.
Tomorrow will be warmer, flyable but with weak thermals.

Volcanic ash in Denmark, no problem for hanggliders.

Last year hanggliders where grounded during the ashcloud over europe.
This year rules have changed, there are no restrictions for flying hangglider.

So if the ashcloud that today closed northern part of Denmark spreads to our competition area, we will have the airspace for our self together with sailplanes and paragliders.

Less than 2 weeks to the start of the competition.
Dispensation to fly up to 7000ft approved for the comp.
20 pilots registered.
The 3 remaining places are now open for Danish pilots as well as guest pilots.

The official team is ready to do the work.

For retrieval there will be our old bus with room for 8 pilots and gliders.
A bus will be rented with room for 8 pilots and gliders in our new glider trailer, which hopefully will be ready in a few days.

Looking forward to a great comp.

29. may. Last competition day.

Winner of Danish Open Nationals 2010 and Danish champion is Lars Bo Johansen (again).

Last competiton day. Forecast promised rain comming in at 1500 so early task with start window from 1130 to 1400. Task was set 58km straight line to the north east away from the incomming rain.
4 pilots made it to goal, but wind was stronger and more direct to goal than expected.
So task was to fast devaluating the day value.
Again to day, nice flying weater and strong thermals to 1500meters.

8 days comp including the training day, 4 heats 4 cancelations. Due to the fantastic nice flying weather it was a comp a little over average in Denmark.

A very good day.
Base between 1500 and 1900meters.
Lift between 4 and 5,7m/s.
Due to an uncertanty about weather overdevolpment a FAI triangle task of 80km was set instead of 100km.
50% of the pilots made goal.
Lars Bo was the fastest with a speed of 45,7km/h and he now has a nice gap to the other pilots on the total score.
Forecast for tomorrow, a front with pass the area. Small possibility for a flying day.
Saturday looks like another competition day.

26 may. Nice weather. 7 pilots in goal.

Task to tamdrup and cross wind to the north.
7 pilots made goal.
A nice day with 1500meter base most thermals 3m/s and at least one 5m/s.

Another day canceled.
Today the wind is even strongerer than yesterday 15m/s.
Good news, tommorow looks like a nice competition day.

Day canceled due to strong winds and overcast low base.

Late 1700 the sky opened up, Lars Bo took a flight to Juelsminde.
The start was turbulent, but he had a nice flight.

We had a change in weather.
Thermals only go to 600meters and the wind is strong.
A smal 40km task to goal in Tamdrup is set.
The task could have been cancelled due to the wind but incomming cirrus closed down the day and made the decision easy.
Task is canceled.

Forecast for the next days, 2 days with to much wind.
The last 4 days will be flyable.

On the training day we had very nice weather.
Some pilots flew a smal 60km FAI triangel.
Good thermals up to 3,5 m/s, high cloudbase 1600meters.
